In spring 2007, MGO surveyed physician offices to assess the level of practice operations and determine future educational and program opportunities. There were 625 surveys sent to MGO practices and 363 were returned (58%). Comparisons were made between practice size, specialty and type of management staff
An analysis of the data was created on an aggregate level and individual practice level. There were many overarching conclusions from the survey, including the following (1) MGO practices have a heavy focus on everyday issues but do not participate long term strategic business planning. (2) The interest in education was focused on increased reimbursement versus considering areas which would increase revenue via proper business planning. (3) Practices are using a wide range of billing systems, PMS and EMR but these systems not being utilized to maximize efficient business processes.
There are other conclusions that serve as indicators of how well MGO practices operate as businesses.
